Broken down into categories such as 'Food and Drink' and 'Fun and Games', the list gives nods of the head to deserving establishments, in categories like 'Best Dinner worth Bragging About' and 'Best Place to Free Your Inner Nerd'. Let's take a quick look at some of Philly's best bars and nightlife.
Philly's best bars and nightlife
Best Bar – The Stratus Loungeon Chestnut Street's Hotel Monaco heaves with a young, happening crowd every night of the week. Equally deserving of its place on this category's shortlist isAlla Spina, which offers a stellar draft beer list in classy surroundings. At the deep end of the dive bar scene, McGlinchey's pours reliable standards at an affordable price.
Best After Hours Spot – The outright winner in this category is the Play and Players' Quig's Pub, known to locals as 'the actor's speakeasy' for its exclusivity. Set inside Rittenhouse's Plays and Players Theatre on Delancey Place, Quig's plays host to the great and the good from both local and national dramatic communities. Membership costs $35 for the year, or $5 per night.
Best Beer List – Triais famous for its brilliant pairings of cheese and wine. Enthusiastic gourmands will not want to miss it. Over on North Wayne Avenue is Teresa's Next Door, which boasts more than 20 beers on tap, constantly updated to placate even the most hardened foamboy. Phillymag describes Teresa's selection of American and Belgian beers as 'awesome' – and who are we to argue?
Best Whisky Bar – Village Whiskey has the most exhaustive selection of drams in Philadelphia, bar none. Located on South 20th Street, it is run by efficient, knowledgeable bartenders who can point you in the direction of the right drop for you, whether you have a peaty palate or a smoky-sweet tooth. Village Whiskey offers some 200 Scotches and Irish whiskeys, so all you have to do is stagger home.
Best Pub – Phillymag's favorite food-serving public house is the Kennett, which offers excellent gastropub fare and a fine craft beer selection. Chuck in some decent cocktails and a wood-fired pizza oven, and you have a long night's imbibing and dining ahead of you on South 2nd Street.
