Best beaches in Delaware

Generations of families have been attracted to the small town charm of the Delaware coastline—and with tax-free shopping, dining and entertainment, what’s not to love?

  • Bethany Beach– In 2013, Family Vacation Critic named Bethany Beach one of the “Top 10 Best Beaches for Families.” Travel & Leisure Magazine has dubbed it one of the “Best Secret Beaches.” Outstanding dining opportunities await, with fresh-caught seafood at Bluecoast Seafood Grill, oceanfront lunches at Mango’s and Italian at DiFibeo’s. The local Fenwick Wine Cellars is a stop on the Delaware Wine & Ale Trail you won’t want to miss. Kayaking, windsurfing, fishing and dolphin-watching are available at this award-winning beach.
  • Dewey Beach– The Natural Resources Defense Council listed Dewey Beach as one of the “Nation’s Cleanest Beaches.” Here you can enjoy live music, entertainment and open-air bar environments at the Starboard, North Beach, Ruddertowne, or Bottle and Cork. Beach sports like surfing, paddleboarding, sailing, para-sailing and kayaking are popular here. There are a number of family-friendly events running throughout the summer, such as Monday night movies and Wednesday night bonfires (and s’mores) on the beach. You won’t want to miss the “mile of style” at the Tanger Outlet Center. Jolly Trolley shuttles are offered down to Rehoboth Beach from this location as well.
  • Rehoboth Beach– Like Dewey Beach, the Natural Resources Defense Council recognized Rehoboth Beach as one of “The Nation’s Cleanest Beaches.” The iconic boardwalk is a kids’ delight, with amusement rides, water slides, bumper boats, arcade games and mini-golf, as well as tasty treats like Grotto Pizza, Thrashers Fries and Snyders Candy. For adults, Rehoboth is packed with nightlife, fine dining, spas and shopping. Whether you want to bathe in the sun, watch area dolphins frolic, or build a sandcastle, this pristine family-friendly beach is the place to do it.
  • Lewes Beach– Lewes is the first town in the First State. With a picturesque lighthouse, fishing marina, Second Street dining, ferry rides and Cape Henlopen State Park campgrounds, the area boasts a quiet charm for people who truly love the outdoors.
