HGTV’s Showhouse Showdown Visits Darley Green

Montachanin Builders: Delaware townhomes and condos

HGTV’s popular program Showhouse Showdown made a recent visit to Darley Green, where designers Nile and Quentin, two professionals with differing styles and tastes, tackled the same five rooms in a fierce makeover competition. Before working their magic on the new Delaware townhomes and condos, Don Robitzer – CEO of the Commonwealth Group – spoke about the developer’s vision and originations of Darley Green, and how the master planned community was created to promote homeownership in the up-and-coming town of Claymont. Robitzer explained that the townhouses and condos are targeted to today’s young, upward professional and the first-time homebuyer.

The HGTV designer throwdown was a blast from start to finish, and highlighted the versatility and ample space afforded in Darley Green’s wide selection of move-in ready homes.

Nile v. Quentin in Darley Green Showhouse Showdown

The interior designers were given two identical Darley Green model homes in the recent episode, and their polar opposite preferences were evident from the start. Practicality and function were paramount for Nile, who made high-end countertops and a stainless steel microwave the star of his gourmet kitchen. To emphasize the room’s high ceilings, Nile elevated the kitchen cabinets and also created a two-tiered island to keep meal prepping space separate when guests are visiting.

In Quentin’s kitchen, a colorful backsplash and upscale steel range hood took center stage. Favoring aesthetics over practicality, he placed the microwave in a recessed area underneath the one-level island. Quentin opted for an elegant sitting nook adjacent to the kitchen, in stark contrast to Nile’s oversized lounge that he described as “casual luxury.”

Both designers divulged some of their trade secrets, giving new homeowners some creative decorating tips and ideas to maximize a room’s positive aspects. Check out the full episode on HGTV to see who prevailed in this fun episode of Showhouse Showdown!
