The Parrish Trail

Even if you’re not an exercise aficionado, the Parrish Trail is a must-do for every Kennett Square resident. It’s located just a stone’s throw away from the center of the town, but it’s remarkably secluded.

It’s a one-mile segment of the larger Kennett Greenway, and it’s beautifully maintained by The Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County. Begin your journey on the stone aggregate trail starting just south of the Herb Pennock Park. Follow it along the West Branch of the Red Clay Creek south until it ends at Chandler Mill Road.

From there, you can decide to end your peaceful foray into nature, or you might decide to explore further. At Chandler Mill Road, you’ll find the Chandler Mill Nature Preserve.

The Woodlands at Phillips Mushroom Farms

In Kennett Square, residents take mushrooms seriously. In fact, as the Mushroom Capital of the World, roughly 50% of all of the mushrooms commercially grown in the U.S. come from right here.

The annual Mushroom Festival takes place every September, but if you crave fungi any time of year, you can visit The Woodlands at Phillips Mushroom Farms. The Phillips family has been growing mushrooms in Kennett Square since the 1920s.

Visit the museum free of charge for a self-guided tour and learn all about the health benefits, medicinal uses, and growing process of mushrooms.

While the museum is a major attraction, the real belle of the ball is the onsite shop, where you can choose from an incredible variety of dried mushrooms, sampler baskets, dips and seasoning mixes, tapenades, and even maitake coffee.

Soak in the Atmosphere at Kennett Flash

If you love live entertainment, then Kennett Flash is the place to be. This café-style venue hosts an incredible variety of live shows—from local and regional music to children’s programs to comedy.

Expect a somewhat cozy, 100-seat, all-ages listening room. A $5 BYOB charge allows you to bring in your own wine or six-pack (no hard liquor or spirits allowed). Light refreshments are available at the concession stand, where you can also order a fresh, gourmet pizza through Kennett Flash’s partnership with local restaurant La Verona.
