Amenities Offered at Montchanin Builders’ Communities

As veteran home builders in Delaware, Montchanin Builders understand the value of stand-out amenities in their new home communities in Delaware. Whether it’s a state-of-the-art library, pedestrian-friendly paths to local shops and cafes, or access to award-winning schools, these types of inviting features are what make each development unique.

If you are house hunting for affordable family home communities, here are a few compelling reasons to check out the master-planned communities of Darley Green and The Town of Whitehall. Both were designed with one thing in mind: to create a more enjoyable, more convenient and more family-centric place to live, work and play.

Located in excellent school districts

Most growing families prefer to reside in an area where their children will have a competitive advantage in education. Located in the heart of Claymont’s Renaissance District, just 10 minutes from downtown Wilmington, Darley Green offers access to some of the region’s best educational offerings, including the prestigious Archmere Academy, a private co-ed college prep school for grades 9-12. Renowned for its rigorous academics and thriving music program, Archmere is just across the street from the beautiful townhomes of Darley Green. There are other excellent schools in the local vicinity, including Wilmington Montessori, Claymont Elementary, Talley Middle School and Brandywine High School, giving parents numerous options for ensuring their children have a first-rate education. When science fair season rolls around, kids and their parents can avail themselves of the well-equipped Claymont Library, just steps from their door.

If being in a great school district plays a key role in your home purchase, consider The Town of Whitehall, located in the esteemed Appoquinimink School District. The district is home to Appoquinimink High and Middletown High, which recently garnered accolades as the best schools in Delaware, according to U.S. News & World Report. Also worth mentioning is that homes in good school districts historically hold their value, even in sluggish economies. Moreover, this highly walkable community will soon be home to its very own elementary school, which is slated to be completed in the upcoming year.

Nearby recreational amenities

The communities of Montchanin Builders also feature walking paths, nature trails and easy access to the kinds of amenities that transform a collection of homes into a tightly-knit neighborhood – a place where a stroll down the street will take you to school, to the library or to the playground. Mixed use buildings are incorporated throughout these new home developments, meaning residents can ride their bikes or walk to their neighborhood cafe or favorite shop.  Although you won’t find a communal swimming pool or fancy clubhouse in Darley Green or The Town of Whitehall, you also won’t be paying extra fees for their ongoing maintenance.

Instead, you will find nearby amenities that encourage a healthy, more active lifestyle. For instance, Darley Green is a short stroll from the beautiful Woodshaven Kruse Park, as well as several swim clubs and baseball fields. Kids will be raring to go outside and play!

For an amazing family outing, The Town of Whitehall boasts miles of gorgeous bike trails, with scenic loops along the C&D canal, and a longer path to Lums Pond State Park. Modeled after some of our nation’s most treasured “old fashioned” neighborhoods, Whitehall boasts communal gathering areas for seasonal events, and has on-site retail establishments and shops, making this an incredibly pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

Quartz vs. Granite Countertops: Quick Tips to Help You Decide

For many families, the kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where kids gather for after-school snacks and where guests linger over cocktails. A well-designed kitchen should reflect the décor scheme of the rest of the home, but also present its own unique personality. As a centerpiece that naturally draws the eye, the kitchen’s countertops are a crucial design decision.

When you decide to make The Town of Whitehall your new home, you’ll have your choice of granite or quartz countertops. Schedule a tour today of the model homes at The Town of Whitehall—a masterfully planned Montchanin Builders community in Delaware. And when it’s time to choose between quartz and granite, consider the following factors.

Granite and quartz are both natural materials, with a slight difference. If you prefer 100% natural countertops, you should choose granite. Granite countertops are carved out of quarries around the world. They’re highly polished and cut to size, but the appearance is left untouched.

If you don’t mind having mostly natural countertops, you could choose quartz, which is an engineered stone. About 93% of a quartz countertop is the natural stone, with the remaining 7% comprised of polymer resins and color pigments.

Aesthetic appeal

Both granite and quartz countertops are attractive choices for every kitchen, but there are some notable differences. Homeowners who choose granite do so because they enjoy the one-of-a-kind look. Since granite isn’t modified, its dramatic swirls and patterns are undeniably unique and downright gorgeous. The showy nature of granite will make any kitchen pop, and homeowners can choose from light to dark granite slabs, some of which have beautiful flecks of blue, red, or gray.

As lovely as granite countertops are, homeowners who love clean lines and homogeneity are more likely to choose quartz countertops. Quartz tends to work best in kitchens that emphasize clean, modern lines and orderly simplicity. If the swirls, spots, and specks of granite look too “busy” in a kitchen, then quartz is a perfect alternative.

Both granite and quartz countertops are highly durable, which is one reason why they’re so popular. Granite is more brittle than quartz, although its brittleness is usually only problematic during the installation process. Once the granite is safely installed, homeowners have nothing to worry about.

Care and maintenance

The maintenance of a countertop is an important consideration. Both granite and quartz countertops are easy to care for, although granite does require a little more upkeep. Granite is more porous than quartz, which means that spills must be wiped up promptly to prevent staining. Granite countertops should also be resealed every two to five years.

Quartz is low-maintenance. Since it is nonporous, it resists staining well. However, it’s best to use cleaning products recommended by the manufacturer, as quartz reacts poorly with certain chemicals.

Interior Concepts Brings the Modern Rustic Revival to The Town of Whitehall

Can a home embody both Old World charm and sleek modern styling? Can new construction successfully bring the look and feel of nature inside while boasting modern amenities? Here at Montchanin Builders, we enjoy a challenge. That’s why we’re pleased to partner with Interior Concepts to take custom building to a higher level. It is a uniquely walkable, mixed-use, family oriented community designed with both nostalgic ambience and modern convenience in mind.

Universal appeal of the modern rustic aesthetic

The modern rustic trend is making waves because it brings nature to suburban living. These homes invite families to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. These homes are designed in a luxurious way that embraces the simplicity of nature. The rustic revival style creates a rich world of the grain and knottiness of wood, the solid feel of raw stone, the vintage look of non-reflective, industrial metal, and roughly textured fabrics. The simple beauty of the natural state of things offers comfort at home, even as families enjoy modern amenities and nearby attractions.

Defining characteristics of the modern rustic trend

Modern rustic is at once timeless and timely, excitingly modern and patiently vintage. With the expert designers of Interior Concepts and Montchanin Builders working together, the new, custom homes in The Town of Whitehall will break the mold of the planned community model. We aren’t satisfied with creating cookie cutter houses and assembly line communities. Our design experts embrace the uniqueness of each home because we understand that no two families are alike.

Thanks to the ingenuity of our professional designers, our homes simultaneously reflect warmth and monochromatic designs, with rooms that are both eclectic and charming. The rustic revival embraces the look of rugged nature with its raw stone, distressed wood floors with wide planks, and exposed beams. As soon as you step in the door, you’re greeted by soothing, earthy colors that are nicely balanced with white or paneled walls and airy, high ceilings. From the built-in bookshelves to the master suite fireplace, rustic revival homes have everything a family could desire.

Why Buyers and Builders Have Fallen In Love With Open Floor Plans

living room kitchen designOpen floorplans have steadily risen in popularity since the 1990s to become the predominant trend in building. This type of layout features interconnected kitchens, living, and dining rooms that flow without obstruction from dividing walls or doorframes.

On the popular home renovation and interior design site Houzz, there are more than 600,000 photos of open-plan spaces and it’s the preferred choice of 60 percent of their readers.

There are many reasons to love the open floor plans featured in our Darley Green and Town of Whitehall new home communities in Delaware.

Enjoy a social lifestyle

  • Entertain guests. Have you ever noticed that many house parties tend to gravitate toward the kitchen? Guests like to spend time interacting with the host, who is busy preparing meals, while enjoying easy access to the refrigerator. Open floor plans enable hosts to remain part of the action, while giving guests freedom to roam.
  • Spend family time. Parents or grandparents of young children like that an open layout allows them to keep an eye on the little ones, no matter what they’re doing. You can cook or clean in the kitchen, while older children play, watch TV, or finish their homework in the family rooms. The close proximity of family members encourages open dialogue and a more communal way of living that suits the modern family.

Harmonize your space with nature

  • Maximize natural light. The greatest architects like Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Kahn understand the transformative role that natural light can play in a home. In fact, Kahn once stated: “A room is not a room without natural light.” Without so many walls, sunlight can filter in and permeate the space to improve your mood.
  • Promote indoor-outdoor living. Some homes have main spaces that open up to outdoor kitchens or patios. The open concept plan gives you views of a landscaped backyard and connects the indoor/outdoor spaces.

Make the most of your space

  • Rooms look larger. The vaulted, high ceilings common to open layouts gives you the feeling of a much larger space. Walls, doorways and halls can make a person feel claustrophobic, while robbing the family of valuable living space.
  • Expand your design choices. Have you ever been to a furniture store and fallen for a particular couch only to find you don’t have the wall space to cram it into your living room? An open layout gives you endless possibilities for structuring furnishings to meet your aesthetic preferences and needs. It’s easy to create a harmonious flow using common color themes from room to room when everything is connected.

Contact Montchanin home builders in Delaware for a tour of the open floor plans featured in the Delaware townhome communities of our Darley Green or Town of Whitehall affordable family home communities to see if it’s a fit for your family.

New Elementary School Comes to the Town of Whitehall

back to schoolThe local community overwhelmingly approved a $268 million referendum to upgrade local education centers and build three new schools, including one in the Town of Whitehall. The 840-student elementary school will go on a 13-acre plot of land that was donated to the district.

Educational opportunities for the neighborhood are already top-class, but the new school is expected to accommodate the growing student base in the area. The Appoquinimink School District has added 766 students in the past two years. More than 3,000 students have joined the district over the past decade. All told the district serves over 9,800 New Castle County students.

Appoquinimink School District is ranked #1

The U.S. Department of Education recently ranked the Appoquinimink School District the “number one public school district in Delaware.” The results speak for themselves, with students earning over 85% proficiency in math and reading. Not only are students given the tools they need to meet modern demands for knowledge in language and technology, but cultural awareness, positive work ethic and problem solving skills are stressed in the classrooms, too.

Extracurricular activities like theater, sports, and government clubs encourage every student to get involved. The motto of the Appoquinimink School District is to “give their kids the world.”

Why live in the Town of Whitehall?

The educational opportunities for young children is one of the many reasons to live in Delaware’s Town of Whitehall. The unique New Urban community fosters a sense of community with large, old-fashioned front porches close to community centers, shops, businesses, and parks with walking trails.

The architecture and park-like setting was also designed with the characteristics of historic neighborhoods in mind. Community planners along with the Welfare Foundation want the Town of Whitehall to create a legacy for the next century by returning us to walkable living.

“We want to be Delaware’s next great place where people can stay home when they’re not at work instead of having to get in their cars,” said Welfare Foundation COO Chris Grundner. “Until now, the notion of walking down the block to get a cup of coffee or walking your children to school were, in many ways, notions of a bygone era. When it all comes together, the residents of Whitehall will have access to most of the things they’ll need right here in their new hometown.”
